CONTEMPORARY
CIRCUS COLLEGE
(CCCC)
Copenhagen Contemporary Circus College (CCCC) is a new 3-year higher education programme at bachelor level in contemporary circus, based in Copenhagen.
The college will be located in the beautiful, historic seaplane hangar on Holmen - a unique space for artistic training and exploration. The venue opens for circus activities in autumn 2025, including preparatory courses, workshops, and public events. The full degree programme will launch in 2026 with the first student intake. Physical auditions will be announced at the end of 2025, and we expect to admit 10 students in the first year.
CCCC is an independent private school. The programme is not initially eligible for Danish student grants (SU), but we are actively working towards public recognition and support. The programme is free of charge for admitted students, apart from a annual study fee of € xxxx.
The curriculum and teaching team are currently in development and will be published in spring 2026, along with detailed information about the auditions.
The programme offers training across a wide range of circus disciplines, with a strong focus on both cultivating and challenging each discipline - artistically, technically, and conceptually. We work in close collaboration with other artistic fields such as dance, theatre, and music, and aim to create a dynamic learning environment where artistic boundaries can be explored, questioned, and expanded.
At CCCC, students are encouraged to explore their full creative and physical potential. We support the development of both technical skills and artistic voice, and we aim to strengthen students' ability to reflect, take initiative, and contribute meaningfully to contemporary performing arts - as solo artists and/or as part of collective processes.
Theory and academic perspectives are integrated through practice. We experiment with new pedagogical formats, modes of reflection, and methods of documentation.
More information about circus disciplines, study programme/curriculum will follow.
Why are we doing this? Contemporary circus is a vital, physical, and innovative psychical art form. Today, no state-funded higher education exists for circus in Denmark - despite its growing artistic and cultural significance both nationally and internationally.
CCCC is currently a private initiative by JA Circus established to fill a gap in the performing arts education landscape. – a responsibility we believe ultimately belongs to the state. Driven by the spirit of Dare to Move, we are taking the first step and building what doesn't yet exist. We are not only creating the school we believe in, to take action and create change, we're also doing it with a clear purpose: to make it easier for the state to take on the responsibility - it should have carried all along.
